Earth Day (Month) 24,901 Mile Challenge

It’s back… the Earth Day Virtual Challenge and we are determined more than ever to crush last year’s total of 26,528.7892 miles.

The goal of the Earth Day Virtual Challenge (24,901 Miles) is simple.  The goal is that during the month of April (Earth Day Month) we will collectively see how many times we can run the distance of the equator 24,901 miles!  We need at least 415 participants to commit to run at least 2 miles a day for the month of April to make it at least once around the Equator but we think we can do more!

How to Complete:

  1.  Join the challenge for FREE!  You can also upgrade your registration and you’ll get the Earth Day official t-shirt, the super cool commemorative medal to brag to your friends and show off your challenge accomplishment.  We’ll even include an Earth Day pack of wildflower seeds so you can help make a difference!
  2. Throughout the month of April, you will be asked to log your miles and report them via our results page daily or weekly which will be tallied toward our overall goal.
  3. Recruit your friends, family, even co-workers to join our quest! Remember to share your mission by tagging @virtualrunchallenge and #VRCEarthDayChallenge

Get to Know the Cause

We will be donating a portion of each paid registration to National Park Foundation’s Park Restoration Fund. These donations will help support the parks that need the most help. The National Park Foundation will work closely with the National Park Service and our park partners to assess the damage and provide the resources to coordinate projects such as natural habitat restoration, graffiti removal, and other volunteer efforts.

How does the Earth Day Challenge work?

The Earth Day Virtual Challenge is a worldwide run, walk, steps challenge that participants band together with a single goal in mind: complete the distance around the equator 24,901 miles within the month of April, rain or shine. For 30 days, let’s all run, walk, crawl, or ride your bike to help us meet our goal.

If I Register for the Premium Participant when will I receive my gear?

All Premium Participants that register for the event will receive their swag at the mid to the end of April.  However, things happen and there may be unforeseen delays in delivery.

We have limited quantities of this item, so order early to ensure you can receive one.

Is there a designated event hashtag for the Earth Day Challenge?

Is there an official Facebook Page or Group for the event?

Yes, we actually have an official Facebook Group as well as a designated Strava Club you can join.  Both, are great ways to connect with other participants as well as find motivation and support.

Does this challenge cost anything to register?

There is no cost for this event.  We need all the help we can get to achieve our goal of 24,901 miles and hopefully more. However, if you want to add a bit more bling, there is a swag pack option that includes a participant shirt, medal and even a pack of wildflower seeds!  You can upgrade to the swag pack anytime throughout the challenge if you choose; however, we do have limited quantities, so don’t procrastinate too long!

Where can I log my daily activity?

The best way to keep track of your activities is to find a calendar and write down what the activity milage is each day. Fitness apps like Apple Health and wearables like Fitbit, Garmin, and Suunto watches are also a great way to track your daily mileage.
