About this Virtual Running Challenge

9/11 is a day that will live in many American’s minds and hearts.  We take this time to remember those who lost their lives as well as the numerous NYC Police, Firefighters, and Port Authority who were also lost.  The 9/11 Memorial Virtual Run Walk is a second-year event for the Virtual Run Challenge that gives us the opportunity to remember those individuals as well as to raise funds to help those affected by this tragic event.

This year we have chosen 2 charity organizations that you can choose from to benefit from this event.  The first is the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and the second is Tuesday’s Children.  Both are respectable organizations that dedicate to various programs and also have high ratings on Charity Navigator.  You can read more about each organization on their respected websites.   National Fallen Firefighters Foundation – FireHero.org and Tuesday’s Children – TuesdaysChildren.org

How does the 9/11 Memorial Virtual Run Walk (9.11 miles) work?

The 2020 9/11 Memorial Virtual Run Walk is an event that is completed on your own time and location.   Participants are asked to complete the event distance within the event starting time of August 23, 2020 and October 3, 2020.   You are responsible for tracking your own time via a fitness app on your smartphone or other fitness wearable device.  Once you have completed the required distance participants will then submit evidence of completion via the Virtual Run Challenge website to claim their finisher medal.

When do I receive my swag?

Race packets for the 2020 9/11 Memorial Virtual Run Walk will start shipping on or around August 23, 2020.  Typically we will send out your race bib first upon registration so you can complete the event.  Finisher medals will be sent once your results have been confirmed.   If you would like your race packet sent out altogether, please email us at contact@thevirtualrunchallenge.com and we will make arrangements.

Yes, we actually have an official Facebook Group as well as our Strava Club you can join.  Both, are great ways to connect with other participants as well as find motivation and support.

Where can I log my daily activity?

The best way to keep track of your activities is to find a calendar and write down what the activity mileage is each day. Fitness apps like Apple Health and wearables like Fitbit, Garmin, and Suunto watches are also a great way to track your daily mileage. Officially you can submit your activity miles via your Haku account.  Don’t forget to share with us through social media what you are doing to stay active!
